George and the Dragon- Chris Wormell
We will be using the story to write non-chronological reports and letters. We will also explore poetry this term focussing on Calligrams (shape poems).
White Rose Maths
This half term we will focus our learning on statistics and will be creating and interpreting tally charts, pictograms and block diagrams. We will then move onto position and direction.
Geography/ History
In this History unit, the children will explore the following question – How have Kings and Queens impacted our lives today? We will learn about British Monarchs from Queen Victoria to modern day and will also research their lives.
Science
Our topic in Science for this half term is Animals including humans. We will describe the importance of exercise and hygiene for humans and will learn about eating the right amounts of different types of food.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PSHE we will be looking at recognising, understanding and managing feelings.
In RE we will explore places of worship and will discuss why people like to belong to a sacred building.
Art/ D & T/ Music
We will continue to explore our artist ‘Guiseppe Arcrimboldo’. Children will use overlapping and overlaying to create effects.
In D&T our topic is on cooking and nutrition. The children will be making and evaluating their healthy wraps.
In Music our song for this half term is ‘Reflect, Rewind and Replay’.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will practice throwing and catching, explore strength and discuss relationships with others.
Spellings/ Reading
We follow All Aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focussing on: The /Λ/ sound spelt o, words ending –il, the /dʒ/ sound spelt as ge and dge at the end of words and sometimes spelt as g elsewhere in words before e, i and y, the /s/ sound spelt c before e, i and y and exception words list.

Little Evie in the Wild Wood – Jackie Morris
We will be using the story to describe nocturnal animals and as a starting point to writing a narrative in the first person all about creeping through the woods!

This half term we will be learning about fractions and time.
Geography/ History
In this History unit, the children be looking at the following questions — Who are our local heroes? and Why should we remember them? We will be learning about the lives of some of the most significant people in the history of our locality. We will use a range of sources for evidence. Our final aim is to create a mini museum dedicated to the people that we have studied.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is plants. We will be observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants and will find out and describe what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
Educational Visit
We will be going on an exciting residential visit to Standon Bowers.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us grow and stay healthy.
In RE we will be looking at what it means to belong to a faith community.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcrimboldo’ Children will create patterns and will use a range of tools and surfaces.
In D&T our topic is on cooking and nutrition. The children will be exploring the different food groups to understand a balanced diet.
In Music our song for this half term is ‘Friendship’ by Joanna Mangona and Pete Readman.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focussing on athletics, fitness and diet.

Flat Stanley ‘Flat Again’- Jeff Brown
Stanley is back and he is flat again. Even his brother Arthur can’t come up with a plan to re-inflate Stanley this time.
Children will be writing a diary entry as if they are Stanley, a narrative in the first person and poetry focusing on riddles.

This half term we will be learning about Length and height and Mass, capacity and temperature.
Geography/ History
In this Geography unit, the children be looking at our big question—What does our landscape look like?
We will be looking at the physical geography of the UK’s beaches, cliffs, coasts, seas, oceans hills, mountains, forests, valleys, rivers and vegetation. We will also identify and describe the world’s highest mountain and the major rivers in different continents of the world.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is habitats. We will be learning about and comparing the difference between habitats and micro-habitats by observing the natural world.
Educational Visit
We will be visiting Deep Hayes Country Park to observe and identify the physical features of our surroundings.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us to stay safe. We will be looking at staying safe at home, school and the community.
In RE we will be looking at ‘what is the good news Christians believe Jesus brings?’ We will be exploring ways in which Christians try to bring Jesus to others and talking about forgiveness.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Clarice Cliff’. Children will be making and decorating their own clay pots inspired by Clarice Cliff.
In D&T we are continuing our topic on mechanisms. The children will be making and evaluating their own moving monster.
Our song for this half term is ‘Zoo time’. In the style of reggae by Joanna Mangona.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focusing on ball skills and gymfit circuits.
Spellings/ Reading
We follow All aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focussing on: The possessive apostrophe. Adding -ed, -ing, -er and -est to a root word ending in -y with a consonant before it. Adding the endings -ing, -ed, -er, -est and -y to words ending in -e with a consonant before it. Adding -ed, -ing, -er, -est and -y to words of one syllable ending in a single consonant letter after a single vowel letter. Exceptions word list.
Spring 1
Our Wonderful World
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic - Our Wonderful World—Where would you like to live? We will be identifying key features of towns, cities and villages and using maps and atlases to identify famous landmarks, ports and harbours within the UK.
In Science we will be learning about living things, including things that are alive, dead or have never been alive.
Our English focus this half term is ‘Traction Man is Here’. We will write a character description and will be sequencing, planning, writing and editing adventure stories.
In Maths we will be learning about multiplication and division. We will be using and applying our skills in different types of mathematical problems.
Autumn 2
The Great Fire of London
Our topic this half term is a History based topic – The Great Fire of London. Children will investigate how the fire started, whether it could have been prevented and the sequence of events that occurred. Through this topic the children will take part in drama-based activities as well as group discussions.
Our English ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘The Little Polar Bear and the Big Balloon’. Through the text, children will explore how Lars the Polar Bear tackles his problem with Yuri the Puffin. We will be writing non-chronological reports and instructions. We will also explore poetry and will focus on rhymes.
In Maths the children will continue to learn about addition and subtraction. They will also investigate the properties of shapes. In Science we will learn about everyday materials and their properties.
Autumn 1
What are seasons?
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic - Seasons. We will be asking the key question - ‘What are the Seasons?’ and will be looking at seasonal daily weather patterns in the UK. We will begin to explore the world and why some countries are hotter or colder than others. We will then compare daily and seasonal weather in hot and cold countries.
In Science we will learn about animals including humans.
Our English ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘The Selfish Giant’. We will be looking at different elements such as the characters and the setting, and then sequencing and writing the story. We will also be writing letters to the giant and other characters in the story.
In Maths we will be learning about number and place value, addition and subtraction.
