The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde
In English this half term, the children will immerse themselves in the story, before writing a character and setting description. They will also have the opportunity to write a letter.

This half term, we will be learning about place value and addition and subtraction.
Geography/ History
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic – Seasons and The Weather
We will be asking the key question - ‘What are our seasons and weather like around the world?’ We will be looking at seasonal daily weather patterns in the UK. We will begin to explore the world and why some countries are hotter or colder than others. We will then compare daily and seasonal weather in hot and cold countries.
Science
Our topic in Science for this half term is Animals including Humans. We will explore how animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults and will look at the lifecycle of a human. We will also look at what animals, including humans need to survive.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PSHE we will be looking at what makes a good friend.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What Christians believe God is like?’ We will explore some parables and discuss what they mean.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Ben Mosley. Children will be experimenting using a range of tools, surfaces and patterns.
In D&T we will be designing a pouch.
In Music our song for this half term is ‘Hands, Feet, Heart’ by Joanna Mangona.
PE day
Our PE days are a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focussing on boot camp, multi-skills and body parts and their functions.
Spellings/ Reading
Our spelling focus this term - Recap of previous spelling rules, The /dʒ/ sound spelt as ge or dge, and sometimes spelt as g elsewhere in words before e, i and y. Homophones and near-homophones, The /i:/ sound spelt ey, Exception words list, The /ɒ/ spelt a after w and qu.
Our reading focus this term - Continue to apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode. Begin to read accurately by blending the sounds in words that contain the graphemes taught so far, especially by recognising alternative sounds for graphemes and words of two or more syllables.
