‘The Light House Keepers Lunch’
This half term we will be focusing on ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’. We will look at acting out the story, taking on the role of the characters and discussing how they may feel. We will build on our previous writing skills and create character descriptions and setting descriptions, as well as looking at writing the story.

White Rose Maths


In Maths we will continue to build our number skills ready for year 1, looking at sharing and odd and even sharing. We will be creating our own patterns, describing positions and giving instructions to build.

Geography/ History / Understanding the World


History/Geography
We will be looking at transport in the past and present and how it has changed over time. In geography we will be creating our own maps.

Science / Understanding the world


Weather
This half term we will be looking at the beach environment. We will be using key vocabulary such as beach, sea, sand, crab and shell.

Educational Visit


We will be visiting New Brighton beach. Spending time exploring the beach and looking at the lighthouse.

PSHE/RSE/RE/PSED


We will be looking at the feelings of others, and why we need to consider how others may feel. We will be talking about our own feelings and preparing for year 1.

Art/ D & T/ Music/ EAD


In Reception we will be developing our artist skills and creating our own modes of transport. We will use a variety of materials, ranging from clay to lego bricks, experimenting with what works best and why.

Spellings/ Reading


Each week our spellings and reading will directly link to the sounds we are teaching during phonics. We may repeat some spellings or reading books to allow children to confidently apply the phonics they have learnt.
This half term we will be focusing on the applying phase 4.

Little Red Riding Hood

Looking at number to 20 and beyond. Manipulate, decompose and composing shapes and Sharing and grouping.

Geography/ History


For our history focus we will be looking at toys from the past and present and comparing them, we will also have a go at making some of our own toys. For our Geography focus we will be looking at different landscapes and the animals that live there. We will also be also be observing how the weather changes during the summer.

Science


During science will be exploring a range of different materials that would be suitable to create a waterproof cape for Little Red Riding Hood.

Educational Visit

PSHE/RSE/ RE


Will take about being brave and what bravery means as well as discussing a time when we have shown bravery and confidence, when faced with an unfamiliar situation.

Art/ D & T/ Music


We will make the cape that we designed during science and we will also be painting different landscapes using a range of painting techniques and materials.

All Aboard Reading books will be changed each week in line with Phase 3 and 4. We will also be focusing on our tricky words.

Spring 2

For the love of reading text

The Little Red Hen – the children will begin by acting out the story and taking on the roles of the characters, before moving on to retelling the story. They will also be applying their phase three knowledge skills to their reading and writing as well as writing their own character and setting descriptions.

Length, height, time and building 9 and 10.

Understanding the world -Geography/ History
Past and Present - The children will look at what farms were like in the past and discuss how they have changed.

Understanding the world -Science

Reception will be incubating their own duck eggs this half term and watching them hatch. They will also look at the life cycle of a duck. The children will also be baking their own bread and discussing the changes during the process.

Educational Visit

Amerton Farm – the children will gain hands on experience of life on the farm, they will have the opportunity to feed the animals and learn the role of a farmer.

PSHE/RSE/ RE

This half term we will be looking at rules; how to follow them, make them and understand why they are so important.

Art/ D & T/ Music

The children will be making props for the story ‘The Little Red Hen ‘ they will have a go at making their own bag to collect grain. They will use a range of materials and joining techniques and evaluate how effective their methods were.

PE will be every Monday

Spellings/ Reading

Spellings will be added to children’s diaries each week and tested the following week. Children will read their ‘All Aboard’ reading book with an adult every day in school.


Spring 1

Fantasy World

During this half term we will be immersing ourselves in the world of pirates and our text is The Night Pirates.

In literacy we will be acting out and retelling the story as well as building on our writing skills.

In maths we will be investigating number as we grow numbers 6,7,8 we will also be looking at the composition of these numbers as well as looking at one more and one less. We will also be learning about mass and capacity and height and length.

As part of our topic, we will take part in planting seeds and investigating how they grow. We will also be looking at the past and present and we will sequencing our own story and creating a timeline.

Autumn 2

The Gruffalo and Friends

During this half term we will be immersing ourselves in the story of the Gruffalo.

We will be looking at the sequencing of the story, using vocabulary like first and next and we will begin to rewrite the story ourselves. Following on from this we will write character descriptions for the mouse and the Gruffalo and we will be looking at writing our own setting descriptions.

For maths this half term w will begin to look at numbers up to 5. First we will be identifying numbers to 5, then looking at compositions and subitising. We will also be looking at shape this half term, we will begin to identify and name 2D shapes and looking at spotting them in the environment.

Autumn 1

CBeebies Land

During this half term our topic will be ' Cbeebies'. We will be looking at changes over time this half term and sequencing the school day.

We will also be creating autumnal pictures using natural materials and planting seeds an observing closley what happens to them.
